I WONDER who, what, where, when, why, how???

Finding and learning new information can be an exciting journey, especially when it is something you are interested in. Like scientists, it usually begins with making an observation and then asking a question. When people want answers to the question(s), they seek the information. Knowing where to find resources is also very important. Recently, I gave the students an opportunity to investigate a topic of their choice. It needed to be something they didn't know much information about. Using their resources, they needed to collect the new information and decide how they wanted to present it in written form. They needed to consider their purpose for writing. Think about who the audience will be. What would make someone want to read your writing? After prewriting, writing, editing, revising, and receiving feedback, they would finally post their research and ideas on the classroom blog.

Stay tuned to see what the students come up with...

  1. Big Mike

In 1984 Jan, 4 Mike Williams was born In Tampa Florida. When Mike was a kid he was a big fan of the Buffalo Bills. When Mike was in high school he loved sports his favorite was Football and he also loved Basketball. When he played Basketball his average points per game was 14.7. When he played football the QB’s will always look for big Mike Williams, Mike was a really good wide receiver. When Mike was getting ready to go to college he always saw himself for the Gators but he believed that playing for USC would make him a star. When he was playing in USC people said that he can catch almost anything. He was a tall kid if you throw high he will catch if you throw it deep he will also catch. In 2003 USC won the National Championships in NCAA Division I FBS. In 2004 Mike didn’t get drafted it was a sad year for him because people said he would be the 1st pick. He didn’t play the next year for USC he was on the bench. The 2005 draft the Lions drafted Mike Williams as there 1st pick. He was playing well in the first year but then the next year he was getting heavy and heavier. He got traded to the Raiders then to the Titans. He didn’t play football anymore he was too heavy and slow for a wide receiver he started to work out a lot.
2 years later, Mike Williams was picked up by the Seahawks. “We need to change this team so we are goanna give other people a chance” Pete Caroll said the Seahawks coach. Then Mike Williams started his season vs. the 49ers and they won 31-6. Mike Williams was a big player in that game making big catches. Later on the season the Seahawks signed a 4 year deal with Mike Williams. Mike Williams went through a hard time trying to come back and become a star. Williams got popular of his comeback from bad health and then becoming a star. For more information got to…

  2. Reggie Bush bio
Reginald Alfred "Reggie" Bush II (born March 2, 1985 in San Diego, California), Reggie Bush, is an American football player who plays for the New Orleans Saints and he used to play for the USC. He played running back, wide receiver, and punt and kickoff returner for the team. He is usually recognized as one of the best running backs in college football history because his speed, and agility.
On December 8, 2005, Reggie Bush was awarded the Walter Camp Award and the Doak Walker Award. On December 10, Reggie Bush won the most precious individual award in college football, the Heisman Trophy, beating out finalists Vince Young and 2004 Heisman winner and teammate Matt Leinart. He rang up the highest-ever percentages of first-place, older Heisman winners and the media voted him as the 2005 AP Sportsman of the Year.
On January 12, 2006, Reggie Bush selected to leave USC and left the NCAA for NFL. Since it was predicted that he would be the first overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, held by the Houston Texans, Houston was expected to pick up Reggie Bush in the 2005 NFL draft. But, in a surprising move on the night before the draft, the Texans signed Mario Williams, a defensive end from North Carolina State. The New Orleans Saints selected Reggie Bush with their #2 pick in the draft.
On April 23, 2006, a report surfaced that Reggie Bush's family received gifts in violation of NCAA policies. The school later that year took the Heisman trophy away in that matter. Three years later Reggie Bush got his second Heisman taken away in the same matter.
My personal opinions are Reggie Bush is not the player everyone thought he would be. I don’t think it’s fair he got put all over the media for getting his Heisman trophy taken away. Reggie Bush is still my favorite running back in the NFL even though he’s not the player everyone thought he would be he still one of the best athletes in the NFL.

  5. Sharon Creech
    By: Veronica C. Waschell

Sharon Creech is an author who writes novels for children and adults. I found out about her when I was in 4th grade in Miss Oyster’s class we were reading her book called Walk Two Moons for our book club. It was amazing! I hope you enjoy my report about her.
Sharon Creech has written a lot of novels like Walk Two Moons, The Unfinished Angel, Ruby Holler, Replay, Pleasing the Ghost, Heartbeat, and 8 more. She has written 3 picture books, such as who’s That Baby, Fishing in the Air, and a Fine, Fine School. Sharon was born in South Euclid, Ohio, and grew up with her parents Ann and Arvel, her sister Sandy, and her three brothers Dennis, Doug, and Tom. She was born on July 29, 1945, she is 65 years old.
Sharon has won several awards, including the Newbery Medal and Carnegie Medal. In 1995 Walk Two Moons won a Newbery Medal, the United Kingdom Reading Association Award, and the United Kingdom’s Children's Book Award. In 1997, it also won famous the Literaturhaus Award, and the Young Adult Sequoyah Award, Oklahoma, USA. And more!
Sharon Creech is my favorite author.I LOVE her!Walk Two Moons is my favorite book of hers.Right now I am reading Ruby Holler one of her other books.
Where does she get her ideas? Many ideas in Walk Two Moons came from a single fortune cookie message: "Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins." From that came the ideas of a journey (walking along) and of Native American heritage and of people not being w hat they might at first seem to be.
I have always wondered about what made her want to write. I think what inspired her was that she probably loved reading stories as a child and I think she is a great inspiration to all young writers. I think everyone should read her books to get ideas about what they could write about either for class or just for fun.I hope she continues to write for as long as she lives!! 6. Giant Gasol
Pau Gasol was born in Barcelona. When Pau was 16 he played for Barcelona’s junior team. Pau Gasol only played for 11 minutes in the 1998-1999 season. During the NBA draft Pau Gasol was picked in the 3rd round by the Atlanta Hawks in 2001, but they traded there draft to the Memphis Grizzlies for Shareef Adur-Rahin. In Gasol’s first season he got the Rookie of the Year Award. On his third year in the NBA he missed his first game. Pau Gasol’s average was 17.6 per game scored. Finally the Grizzlies were in the playoffs but they lost the first 4 games vs. San Antonio Spurs. Then the next season they went to the playoffs again but still lost the first 4 games vs. Mavericks. In 2006 Gasol got to play his first All-Star game. He was the first Spanish Basketball ball player in the All-Star game, and the first Grizzlies player to make the All-Star game. In the 2007-2008 season Pau Gasol got traded to the Lakers. People were saying “How can you give your 7 foot star to Lakers!” They finished the season best in the west with a 57-25 record. Lakers were in the Playoffs and they swept the Nuggets in the first 4 games. Then the Lakers beat the Utah Jazz 4-2 series. Then they beat the Spurs in the playoffs. Pau Gasol was the first Spaniard to make the NBA Finals. But the Lakers lost the Championship. In the 2008-2009 season Pau Gasol went to the All-Star game. In the first month of Basketball the Lakers had an 11-2 record. In the NBA Finals the Lakers won vs. Orlando Magics. Next season later the Lakers signed a 3 year contract with Pau Gasol worth $64.7 million dollars. In game 6 vs. Oklahoma City Thunders, Pau Gasol made the game winning shot. In the Finals there was going be revenge vs. the Celtics the Lakers won this time with a 4-3 record. For me I think as Gasol the best 7 Foot or up 3-point shooter in the world.

  7. ALIENS
    BY JOSE UDAVE
    Believe IT OR NOT
I choose aliens and why people believe in them and I wonder if they are real. Some people don’t believe in aliens probably because they want more evidence on it. Maybe people believe in aliens because they have seen a UFO or probably been abducted by aliens. And some people think they are lying.
    INFO
Sometimes people see strange lights in the sky but they might be airplanes (UFO stands for unidentified flying object). Some people think they see UFO’s but they just might be hoaxes. Some UFO look like discs and others look like air craft. Some people report that they saw big eyes, long fingers and a big head.

    WHO ARE THEY
“The extraterrestrials who visit us come from a double star system in the constellation of Cygnus. This system is approximately one thousand nine hundred and twelve light years away, and it is too faint to be detected by even our most powerful telescopes. The system consists of a small white dwarf orbiting a large, massive star. The period of rotation is approximately 897 Earth days. The Cygnans live on a planet that circles the small white dwarf.” (Google.com). I think that they are nice but shy because they might be visiting because they come and go.
